How to Focus on Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to your well-being than just working out and consuming healthy foods. Taking a global idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is essential for your overall health. We like to term this as self-care. Here are a few of our favorite approaches to self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be engaging in social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with others! Book a digital coffee date or happy hour with your friends. Keep topics uplifting and tell each other something good that happened to you in the last few days. Talk about plans for when you can see each other again and how comforting it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can support each other. That’s what friends are for!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Draft a plan for your yourself but give your day some flexibility. For instance, get up around the same time every morning and head to bed around the same time every night. Outline your intentions for the day and schedule your work tasks, but allow some time for your daily workout, a walk around the neighborhood, or to relax with your favorite book. Don’t be too harsh with your schedule that you add extra stress. Creating a balance between routine and leisure will help you have a more constructive and gratifying day.

Practice Gratitude

Thankfulness is good for humans. The more gratitude we display to others during these times, the better and more resilient we become. Allow others grace. One of our most treasured ways to practice gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you love them. A a simple note is also an exciting and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.

Get Outside

There’s not a thing better than spending time outdoors, basking in the fresh air. Take a break and walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Wave hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re managing. Hang out in the sun for 10 minutes and practice taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out to dinner at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t savor our meals! Try a new method for dinner and make your meals an event. Dance to your favorite album, get the kids involved, and have some fun with it!

Your attitude affects your day-to-day life and determines your actions. And during these tough times, it’s even more critical to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this moment to implement healthy routines and emerge from this quarantine healthier and happier!
